a 55 word prayer

Please god. Let him answer the phone. Just this one thing and I won’t ask for anything else. Ever. Promise. I won’t call him an idiot again. Complain about his mother. Or grumble that he never helps out and forgets to fold the newspaper. I won’t nag. Or fight. Or throw things. Please god. Promise.

It's true, your little prayer. A lot of us here were praying for phone rings to be answered.

and wishing a lot of things unsaid.

Oh no no no no.. the "Yeah, I know" was meant for your story, not for the "inappropriate" comment
I know as in, yes, my mom was there in Borivli, and my thoughts were on the exact same lines.

I know = I know exactly what you meant.

Borivli = where one of the blasts took place.

I really need to get my thoughts consolidated before clicking on "publish" eh!

- "Anon2"

I truly hope your intention in writing this fictional dialogue with God was noble. I used to like your writing, but, this specific piece is very inappropriate and wreaks of grandstanding with others emotions. Don't for 1 second assume that you can even begin to imagine what it really feels like. It is hell, pure hell! You have lost a reader forever.

anon - hope everyone had their calls answered.

manav - I'm very sorry to have offended you. By no means was this post an attempt grandstand with others emotions. Last year on the day of the London bombings my husband and I parted at Euston station. He boarded a train and I moved on to another platform. A few minutes later the station was evacuated. I went out and began walking towards what I thought was Kings Cross station but was actually Tavistock Square. When I heard the explosion thankfully I was nowhere near the bus. News began filtering in of other bomb blasts. I had no idea where my husband was, what station, whether he had been evacuated. Nothing. I couldn't get through to him because the networks were down. It took me an hour before I could get through. so yes, actually I do know what exactly what it's like. I'm sorry to have lost you as a reader. Best wishes.

Shoefiend,
You did not have to write about your experience in the comment here to justify yourself to this Manav guy.
The true test of a writer is if the reader is able to identify himself with the character in the story, and poor Manav took it a little personally :) It just means that you managed to portray hidden feeling a little too well, feelings which most people dont allow themselves to acknowledge. It just shows how wonderful a writer you are, not how callous you are.
Writers merely attribute emotions we feel/ see to characters we create, and the whole success of a book depends on readers being able to identify with it, so dont apologize for doing something well.
Write on!

ps - I once wrote a fiction about a woman trapped in an abusive marriage, thinking about leaving, and this girl I barely know writes to me screaming at me, how the hell do I know about it, and that I don't have the right to tell her what to do.
Sigh. Such is life.
