seeing but not looking?

Has it ever happened to you - you're passing by the familiar landscape of your daily commute - houses, office complexes, football fields and then all of a sudden something you've never seen before pops up. A glass fronted homage to the modern, an art deco mansion, a gigantic, leafless tree - its bent limbs trying to protect itself from the elements. And you think to yourself - "When did that come up?" "How could I have missed that lovely red brick all these days?"

It's the same with people. Friends, siblings, lovers, parents, spouses. You can spend your entire life thinking you know everything about someone and then discover something startling and new in their personality. Prejudices, fetishes, kinks and quirks come creeping out of the woodwork.

Or were they always there like the redbrick? And we had just never noticed?

So true! reminds me of this beautiful tam song... not sure if you have heard it, 'en mel vizhunda mazhai thuliye' from May Madam...??

For the non tamils, this song is sung by someone who just realises that he has fallen in love... it means something like, 'where were these raindrops that fall on me gently, where was the poet in me who wrote today'... and so on

So true SF So true. Unfortunately such discoveries often seem to be horrible ones which I wish I'd never discovered

shyam - the most interesting thing I've discovered lately is something about myself :) isn't it nice when we manage to take ourselves by surprise?

swathi - now that is strange! too much of a good thing maybe?;)

jane - :) nice to see you again!

wicked angel - the law of averages will make sure you start discovering more pleasant things soon!

Happens with me all the time. With reference to your previous post, we are so engrossd in ourselves that we hardly have the time (or the inclination) to discover the beautiful things around us.

I feel once I am comfortable with a person with certain amount of knowledge about them, I don't want to know anything more and bias my opinion...

I know what you mean ... I've sometimes found I've discovered 'hidden' aspects of people I otherwise know very well, when I look at them through someone else's eyes ... or interact with them whan someone else is present.
I guess we mostly see what we immediately connect with and ignore the rest ...

I have generally "observed" that my "observation" powers are weak. Which is why I can never think of myself as being of great help as an eye-witness to a crime scene :-)
