I hated playing tag in school. Alas I can not avoid it in the blogosphere. Promises of fondue and some 'buttering up' have forced me in to playing.

Mr Men Series – Roger Hargreaves
Where would I be without Mr. Jelly and Little Miss. Naughty?
Revolting Rhymes – Roald Dahl. Illustrations Quentin Blake
Would recite these poems to my parent’s friends when they came round for dinner. I never knew if their red faces were because of the ‘rude bits’ or too much whisky.

Perfectly captures growing pains. Ah how we all yearned to get our periods as young 10 year old girls . If only we knew.

First book that made me cry.

Sigh. Why me? I'll comply all right, but there's no way I'm picking just five books. I think about 25 should be a good number. No actually...
And what is it with the Tin Drum, I wonder? I have it sitting on my shelf too. I've actually read some 100 pages of it and really enjoyed it and totally meant to go back and finish, but somehow it's just never the right time to be reading Grass. Ah well
Roots was one of the best books I have read ever. I enjoyed it enough to make notes for posterity. Also loved The Lovely Bones. Gives me gooseflesh of the not-so-nice variety when I think of it. Depressed me thoroughly for a while. It's a sad, sad book and I love Alice Sebold for writing it.

Sheesh! This is making me superconscious! I've started reading so late in life.. I mean College, actually.. I'm making me a resolution: buy at least one book a month :)
Catch 22 just sitting on the shelf? Hmm, I guess it tends to have that effect. I've read it.. loved it.. but it was quite painful, 'coz I had to sit with this dictionary as I did so.. Suffice to say, I've already forgotten what 90% of the new words (some million in number) I learnt mean.. :(
falstaff - Same here. It wasn't that I didn't enjoy what I'd read of the book. Hopefully it will be Grass's turn soon

Mumbaiwallah - I don't know what it is about Roots. It's like there's a force field surrounding the book that prevents me from reading it. Have heard so much about Sebold that I thought I'd pick it up. Plus at £1 it was a bargain!

Nessa - I think I've read the first 100 pages of Catch 22 at least 4 times. I always get confused and am worried I'll be the one pleading insanity. But that's much better than Ulysses by Joyce. 3 pages was as far as I got
